ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Miss Aniela’s Surreal Fashion first started out at kitsch houses of East London. Inspired by their wealth of eclectic props and furniture, Miss Aniela yearned to fuse their quirkiness more directly with the models themselves. In this fun early piece, model Grace Gray, sporting corset and with curlers still in her hair, rides a carousel horse against a backdrop that becomes adorned with her own image. It was a calling to be playful, to make the viewer look twice, to go beyond simplistic fashion imagery, that set the tone for Miss Aniela’s Surreal Fashion that evolved prolifically over the following years.
